CE Marking – Recreational Craft Components

ENAVE operates as a Notified Body for the conformity assessment of components intended for recreational craft, in accordance with Directive 2013/53/EC.

The components listed in Annex II of the Directive must bear the CE marking in order to be marketed separately or installed on recreational craft. The certification attests that the component has been designed and manufactured in compliance with the high standards of safety and technical reliability required at international level.

Components certified by ENAVE

ENAVE is accredited for assessing the conformity of the following categories of nautical components:

Fire protection: Systems and devices for inboard and stern drive inboard engines (gasoline) intended for installation in compartments containing gasoline tanks.
Start-up protection: Devices that prevent outboard engines from starting when the gear is engaged.
Steering systems: Wheel steering wheels, steering mechanisms, and wiring intended for steering boats.
Fuel systems: Fuel tanks intended for fixed systems and related connecting pipes.
Prefabricated closures: Hatches and portholes designed to withstand marine stress and ensure watertightness.

EU-type examination: Assessment Procedures

The manufacturer is required to ensure that the component meets the essential requirements of the Directive through proper technical design and specific testing based on harmonized ISO standards.

ENAVE acts as a Notified Body by applying the EU type examination procedure (Annex IX – Module B):

In-depth analysis of the technical documentation to validate the design choices and the conduct of direct laboratory tests on one or more samples representative of the production to verify their resistance, functionality, and safety under operating conditions.
ENAVE issues the EU Type Examination Certificate, the document that allows the manufacturer to issue the Declaration of Conformity and affix the CE mark on the component.
