Directive 2006/42/EC

ENAVE operates as a Notified Body for the conformity assessment and certification of machinery in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

CE marking is a mandatory requirement for placing machinery on the EU market. It certifies compliance with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR), ensuring the protection of operators and users against mechanical, electrical, and functional risks arising from the use of the machinery.

Categories of Machines Certified by ENAVE (Annex IV)

ENAVE is accredited for assessing the conformity of the following categories of machinery listed in Annex IV of the Machinery Directive, as provided for in Article 12, paragraphs 3 and 4:

Woodworking, meat processing, and similar materials

Circular saws (single blade and multi-blade):
- Blade in fixed position during cutting, with fixed workpiece support and manual feed or with removable drive.
- Blade in fixed position, with trestle table or reciprocating carriage, manually operated.
- Blade in fixed position with integrated feed device and manual loading/unloading.
- Blade moves during cutting, with integrated feed and manual loading/unloading.
Planers: Manual feed for woodworking.
Single-sided planers: Integrated feed and manual loading/unloading.
Manual loading/unloading band saws:
- Blade in fixed position, with fixed or reciprocating table or support.
- Blade mounted on a reciprocating carriage.
Combined machines: Composed of the types listed above and milling machines.
Tenoning machines: With multiple spindles and manual feed.
Vertical axis milling machines (“toupies”): With manual feed.

Metal, Plastic, and Rubber Processing

Presses and Bending Machines: For cold metal working, with manual loading/unloading, with moving parts having a stroke > 6 mm and speed > 30 mm/s.
Plastic Molding Machines: For injection or compression molding with manual loading/unloading.
Rubber Molding Machines: For injection or compression molding with manual loading/unloading.

Safety Components and Devices

Protective devices: Specifically designed for detecting people.
Interlocked automatic movable guards: Designed as a means of protection for presses and forming machines.

Assessment Procedure: EC Type Examination

The manufacturer is required to follow specific conformity assessment procedures based on the type of machine, demonstrating compliance with the essential requirements through the application of Harmonized Standards or equivalent technical safety analyses.
ENAVE acts as a Notified Body applying the EC type examination procedure (Annex IX – Module B).
Our activities include:

Verification of technical documentation to ensure correct design (Design Examination)
Direct laboratory checks and tests on a representative sample of the production to validate its actual operational safety (Product Examination)
Issuing the EC Type Examination Certificate, the essential document that officially authorizes the manufacturer to affix the CE marking to the entire series produced in accordance with the evaluated prototype, following the appropriate production control procedure.
